PAINT HISTORIC WAXAHACHIE

FullSizeRender (16)

My Adventure Plein Air

I am going to try to write about my adventure in the Paint Historic Waxahachie event in North Texas that was in May of this year but please forgive me if I post this a little late. I have a temporary (I hope) frozen shoulder. I had this since Feb of this year so I am slow at typing now.

Well here goes…The 11 year of Paint Historic Waxahachie stared May 14-20, 2016 but if you sign up early you got to participate in the Pre – Paint Historic Waxahachie which I always sign up for.

This started April 29th and wouldn’t you  know it, it rain and rain most of the month of May too. YUCK!!

I was not sure if I would be able to paint due to my shoulder but the need to paint was greater than my pain so I jump in with both feet.

I started off with this  little  8″x 10″ palette knife gem of the Red Door.

I am fascinated with this red door so I figure I would start with this painting.

One day I was coming home from church and decide to take other route when I came across these three cactuses. They were so grand there next to the old wood fence that I knew I had to paint them.

A few days later I went back to paint what I call the Three Caballeros. It was one of the few nice sunny days  that we had and I decide not to paint in my car to avoid the looky loo but I set up beside my car and painted.

What a brake though I had doing that. I was a little nerves having folks looking at me and my painting but I am a artist and if I want folks to see my work what better why that to paint outdoors.

From this point on I will only paint in my car when it is raining or their is not room/ not allow to paint in the area.

Next is this signage on a old brick building in Maypearl, Tx

It was other sunny day and I wanted to try my hand again at painting this signage so I went out with all my gear and set up next to my car and with my palette knife and brush I recreated this signage on a 11″ x 14″ canvas board.

This painting was done on a warm cloudy but windy Saturday morning .

My husband was off work that day and we like to spend his days off together. So  with a little coaching I got him to take me to Lake Waxahachie to paint for 30 min’s before we started out our day.

Again I set up next to my car so I could talk to my hubby and use my car as a wind barricader.

This is a little brush and palette knife painting that I did on a 5″ x 7″ canvas board.

Later on that day as we where pulling up in our driveway, hubby got a call from his work that he need to go out on an emergency pump out. So as he left I told him that I would be at home waiting for him with a smile on my face but in the back of my mind I was thinking of taking this opportunity to get out and paint one more painting since I was not happy with the earlier painting and besides the sun had finally came out.

After hubby left I took off but did not know what to paint so in a few min’s I was on a road. Before I knew it I saw these trees as I was going around the bend for a farm road. I pull over and this time I did have to paint in my car only because there was know place for me to set up outside.

As I was wrapping up the painting, hubby called to tell me that he was done and on his way home. We talked for a few min’s and he told me that all he need to do was tighten up a pipe.

Will I never painted so fast and pack up. I came home, clean up and about 10 min’s later hubby walks through the back door and said “Are you ready to go have dinner with me”? So glad I got home in time but even happier that I got to paint a 2nd painting too.

This is a 8″x 10″ brush painting on canvas board.

A few days had pass due to the rain when the sun was out and I had volunteer to set in the gallery to check in artist and such that day. After my shift was over I went driving around to see what I could find to paint. I drove around an old neighborhood in Waxahachie  when I came across these Beautiful Morning Glory climbing up a wooden fences. Well again I thought I was going to have to paint in my car but after talking to the home owners they allowed me to paint in their small driveway under a big old shaded tree. It was nice.

This is a 8″x 10″ Palette Knife and brush painting on a canvas board.

After painting the Beautiful Morning Glory I want to paint the Texas clouds after a rainy day so when I got home I set up my easel on the front porch of my house and began to paint fast for the clouds out in Texas move every fast.

This is one of the views that I see every day out in front of my front yard. I try to capture it on a 5″ x 7″ canvas board.

The day before the big Paint Historic Waxahachie show I still wanted to paint some more cactus but because it was raining with thunder and lighting that day I decide to paint my son Quadricolor Cactus in the safety of my back patio but I wanted to make it fast for I don’t trust lighting.

This is the smallest palette knife paintin I did on a  3-1/2″x 5″on Masonite board. I also glue it onto the back of a 5″ x 7″ canvas board and frame it with a custom barn wood frame.
