Kevin McCains – Thumbnails sketchiest are a key to a better painting or drawing

Welcome to My Crazy Plein Air Adventures blog.

Beauty is where you find it. And sometimes it’s found by climbing over a few fences to get to an unusual subject.

That’s part of what makes outdoor painting (Plein Air) so interesting to me.

There are always new and interesting things to be discovered and painted.

Do you do a thumbnails sketches when you plein air?

I never ready thought much about them until I read Kevin McCains blog.

Now when I go out to paint I am going to start using my thumbnails sketches to help me paint.

On Friday April 30, at 6 pm the Ellis County Art Association held their first Ellis County Plein Air Spring Art Show with reception and awards.

I went to the reception and it was so good to see old friends and meet new artist too.

All the art work is amazing and what a joy it is to see the different places that we all painted.

I am going to start making a list of all the places I want to go paint in Ellis County for next year.

5″x 7″ acrylic painting (C)

Well I did not win any award but my friends and some strangers gave me the best compliment on these two painting. I think next year I will paint more Bluebonnets and historical buildings.

So come on down and check out the show plus while you are there  check out the back of the gallery too for more great works of art.
The plein air show will be up from May 1 through June 30 during regular gallery hours,  Tuesdays through Fridays 12 pm to 4 pm,  Saturdays 10 am  to 6 pm,  Sunday 12 pm  to 4 pm and close on Monday.
This gallery is located at 113 W. Franklin St., Waxahachie, across from the historic courthouse.

Now I am going to shift gears for a bit and go back to drawing and studio painting between plein air adventures.

So pop on over to What’s on J.D. Easel on wordpress.com/ and see what I am up too.
