Birdhouse Part-1

Welcome to my crazy Plein Air Adventures blog.

Beauty is where you find it. And sometimes it’s found by climbing over a few fences to get to an unusual subject.

That’s part of what makes outdoor painting (Plein Air) so interesting to me. There are always interesting things to be discovered and painted.

Will once again hubby and I  got a late start this morning. I had no plans on going out to paint today but hubby was insistent so we left the house around 11:30 am (like I said it was a late morning) and we headed out to Rockett (Texas) for me to paint what I call “Birdhouse Community.”

When we got there, I was thinking that I could paint from the back of my car while hubby sat in the car and watch TV on his phone or watch DVDS on the DVD player. But I am finding out that my eyes are really bad now

and I just about had to sit on top of the birdhouses to see it. Ha Ha

As I was setting up my gear close to the birdhouse, a lady from across the street came over. Apparently, this 70 year old lady is the church watcher. What I mean by that she make should that whoever is on the Historical church grounds, they are not there to deface the church or the grounds.

This lady lives across the street, and she comes across the street to ask me what I am doing?  I told her that I was a Plein Air artist and that I wanted to paint the birdhouse. She asked me if I was going to paint “the church sign”?  I said “No the birdhouse.” she asked me two more times, and I told her again “No the birdhouse. “Finally she got it and she told me that one of the church member made that birdhouse and after 30 minutes or more of her talking, to me about the history of Rockett, how the town attracts lightning, how the lighting destroyed the Rockett High school 2x, how  we need to take sage and lemon for our health and more. She finally left, and I got to work on my  simple little birdhouse community painting.

I have decided to use my watercolor set and not worry about setting up my easel and all my supplies for my acrylic. Note: as you can see from other paintout

All I wanted to do was just play and not worry about creating that one painting that the judge might like or win.

So I sat in front of the birdhouse and started to paint, but I didn’t want to paint the big tree that was behind the birdhouse from across the street. Now I am not a watercolorist and I have a lot to learn about watercolors, so I decide to go with a loose feel but how do I do that. Hummm?

I will wet my paper and just blend the green onto the paper. No start over. Next, I re-wet the paper, and I try my hand at making blooms. While it was wet, it looked cool, but once it was dry, as you could see, I flopped.

While I was sitting there listening to nature, I found that working with watercolors ready made me think of my mixing colors, where I wanted my brush strokes, where to place my shadows, and so much more With my acrylic, I don’t think of these thing for they are now old hat to me. But watercolors are a challenge and fun.

Once I reached a point in my paint, I knew to stop. So I packed up and made sure my area was clean where I was painting and went back to the car.  Hubby and I headed back to Waxahachie for us to have an early dinner at Braum’s.

Once we got home, I decided to try and remove all that background green. I successfully did it, but I also somehow removed some of my shadows. When I go to Palmer (Texas), I will drive through Rockett and go back to the church and touch up my painting.

To be continued…

               Q & A

Who is this gal name J.D. ?

🎨 My name is J.D. Fields and I love to draw and paint nature.

 🎨 I’m a two-time transplanted to Texas, which I now call home.

🎨 I married my best friend and soul mate in 1998.

🎨 My husband has three children, two boys and a girl, and I have one girl and two boys. When we got married, we put them altogether and called us all family

🎨 I am an acrylic artist, but I love to play with watercolor, watercolor pencils, color pencils and pens.

🎨 Do you or have you ever painted in Oils?

🎨 Yes, I use to paint in oil in the beginning (1977 – 1984) but I became allergic to the oils and cleaning products and had to stop.

🎨 When did I start learning to draw? I can remember being two and half years old, laying on my grandma kitchen floor, trying to draw the animal on her land.

🎨 Growing up, I have been able to explore many different mediums – Fabric Art, Crocheting, Oil Paint, Pen & Ink Painting and Color Pencils, Charcoal and Graphite Pencil. Along with acrylic painting.

🎨 Do you sell your work?

🎨 Yes, I sell my originals, painting, drawing, and greeting cards online and in galleries.

 🎨 Do you create portraits?

🎨 Not really. I am a landscape artist.

🎨 Do you sell painting with frames.

🎨 Only if they are a custom frame made for the painting.

🎨 How can I purchase a painting that I ready like but has been already sold?

🎨 You can email me at j.d.fieldsartist@gmail.com and place in the subject line ” the name of the painting.” I will be happy to recreate a similar one but it will not be a copy. All My paintings are original.

 🎨 Do you teach classes?

🎨 Yes, I teach acrylic for Beginner’s to adults. I also teach drawing and acrylics for teens.

🎨 Back in the early 2000, I had wanted to try my hand in Plein air. In July 2013, I took the plug and never looked back.

🎨 Whether I’m in my studio or outdoors, I am still learning to draw upon those early influences in a way that I look at life, the subject I chooses and the matter in which I paints.
