Liquitex Varnish

My Adventure Plein Air

Beauty is where you find it. And sometimes it’s found by climbing over a few fences to get to an unusual subject. That’s part of what makes outdoor painting (plein air) so interesting to me. There are always new and interesting things to be discovered and painted.

As an acrylic artist I am finding out that I do not have to deal with toxic solvents or mediums as the oil artist do. I also feel that acrylic paints are a plus for I can complete a painting in one setting. But it seems that after I varnish my painting with any acrylic varnish it smell for weeks and and I can’t get an even pray.

A friend of mine sent me a YouTube video of SchaeferArt and in one of his video he talk about a non toxic/yellowing varnish.

Will I was intrigued so I went to Hobby Lobby art store and bought Liquitex Varnish ( Red Label) and try it. I must say if you are a acrylic artist than this is the way to go.

You can buy the varnish in matt, glossy and satin.

Now that I have use the Liquitex Varnish on some of my Plein Air paintings,  I must say that this produced is the best way to go.  It takes just a little bit to varnish and I like that I can now varnish in my studio and not outside or in the garage.

When you go to varnish your paintings varnish them 2x but  let it dry overnight between each varnish. Plus I don’t have to worry about the smell varnish anymore. YEA!!!!

The only thing is, when you varnish your work make use that none of the varnish gets on the backside. I varnish a painting and I  lay it on top of a white canvas board because I had no room to place it but on the canvas. Once it dry it had glue it self to the canvas board and I had a hard time removing it.

As you can see in this photo.

So if you would like to use something non toxic then I recommend this product.
