Plein Air in Tyler, Texas

FullSizeRender (16)

My Adventure Plein Air

Beauty is where you find it. And sometimes it’s found by climbing over a few fences to get to an unusual subject. That’s part of what makes outdoor painting (plein air) so interesting to me. There are always new and interesting things to be discovered and painted.

————————————————–

Before I start I want to apologize.

I thought I had post all my Plein Air Adventures for this year but I found out that some of them got wiped out while others are still in the draft section. So what I plan on doing is this, some of my Adventures are lost while others are still in the draft mode. I plan on trying to post once a week what I have too update you on what is going on.

Again my apologies if you thought that I fell off the face of the Earth but I haven’t it’s just been one rough year.

FB_IMG_1521240185848.jpg

Well hubby and I went to Tyler, TX but before I tell you my adventure I must say that the day and a half before we left I started to get sick. Hubby told me that if we cancel the Hotel than we would lose all the points that he paid for on the room.

I told him we are going and we did.

We got to Tyler on a Wednesday and the Paint Out was the next days. I could not wait to get out there to paint.

fb_img_1475372244582.jpg

That night I had chills and was just under the weather. But the next day I did not want to get out of bed for I I felt so bad but I suck it up and we went out to the first destination which was a ranch.

After I check in I was over whelmed and all I wanted to do was to go home for I felt that bad. But I figure if got out and painted something than maybe I could get into the swing of thing.

So hubby drove me from the main house to the front house up the road and I saw these three big trees in the pasture with two horses, a beautiful view of the dirt road with trees lining each side of the pastures and right across from where I was sitting was a partial wood fence with some kind of Vine growing around it with these pretty red flowers.

As I started to paint the wind kick in and acrylic and wind are not a good combo. (.*0*.)

As I was painting it seems like it had been so long since the last time I had painted outdoors, it felt like years, but in reality it was just last month.

Has anyone experience this?

Once I had finish my painting (sorry my phone died and I lost all my pictures. So I can’t show you my painting) I move on to other painting but this time I use my palette knife. The wind was so strong by now that my easel kept blowing over. So I have to a meant that I rush through my 2nd painting because of the wind and not feeling well.

Note to self: If you are coming down with something or are sick do not go out to paint because your heart and mind will not be in it.

When we got up the next day it was cold, it had rain and was still windy. So I opted to take photos of landscape, building, etc beside doing some drawings which work out better for me.

017

When the day was over we headed back to the hotel and the next day I slept all the way home.

To cold in Corsicana

My Adventure Plein Air

Beauty is where you find it. And sometimes it’s found by climbing over a few fences to get to an unusual subject. That’s part of what makes outdoor painting (plein air) so interesting to me. There are always new and interesting things to be discovered and painted.

————————————————–

Will this month in November 2018 the Outdoor Painters Society went to Corsicana Texas for a two day paint out.

This town rolled out the red carpet and welcomed 25+ plein air painters who braved the bone-chilling breezes and shivering temperatures in the 30’s/ 40’s!

All the painters who show up got a breakfast & lunch boxes to go, a tee-shirt and a goody bag.  Friday evening we all got-together for a nice “wined & dined” hosted by artist’s residency “100 West”….and on Saturday evening was a wet paint show & sale reception. But a few of us did not make it to the reception for one reason or other. I was one of those artist that did not go. But I am getting a head of my self.

If you had read my last blog than you know my frustration with the weather and Plein Air.

It is Friday and it had rain the day before so it was so cold and windy.

I drove about an hour or a tad longer to I get to my destination, check in, drive around town to see what I want to paint (now remember I am a landscape artist) and I opt to paint the Palace Theater.

It is so cold I opt to paint in my car but I found that my paint kept tacking up on me. So I turn on the heater and kept painting. The weather was so bad that the wind would rock my car hard.

But I kept painting, once I was done I had one bad painting as you can see here.

I got so frustrated that I dove around looking for some barns, fields, etc. But everyone I wanted to paint I found no safe place to paint, not even from my car. So I drove out to a one lane road to one of the houses on the OPS list.

It was the cutest little country home but it was out in no mans lands and I was by my self. I sat in my car debating if I wanted to paint it or draw but an eerie feeling came over me like I shouldn’t be there so I backed my car up and I went back into town.

By now I am frustrated. I was so looking forward to this trip but things are not working out for me.

Have you ever been on a paint out event or just went out on your own and found that know matter what you do things just aren’t work out for ya?

Will that’s how I felt that day.

When hubby got off work he drove up to Corsicana  to meet me and the other painters for dinner. But while he was on his way I drove back to town and found aside street to waited for him.

As I sat in my can on a side street I saw this back door and decided to draw it with Graphite Pencil, Fiber Castle Pens – SX, F, M and store-bought pens.

Once hubby found me and we went to a hotel to clean up and out to dinner we went.

That night I could not sleep. I toss and turn. When morning came I found my skin red but did not think much about it at the moment.

Hubby drove me around as we scouted out place to paint or even draw. But by then I was starting to brake out in hives.

I did have hubby take me back to the cute little country home. With hubby by my side I felt safe.

It was still to cold for me to sit out side to paint so I opted to draw.

As we sat in his truck I started to draw the house in pencil and which to color pencil for the roof. Then I took out my Fiber Castle SX and re-drew some of my house. But I had to stop because I was not feeling well and the hives was getting worse. So I opted out of the reception and sales and went home.

For over a week I had to take meds and put the medicine that looks and feels like Vaseline. So for days and nights I felt like a grease pig.

Now here a side note: Hubby and I stayed in every nice clean hotel. But I have been told that some hotels will use strong detergents to wash their bed sheet and covers.

That might be the case here but I often wonder if they change the bed sheets after each customers vacates the room. We only slept in the room one night. Did she change the sheets after we left? Something to think about.

10/20…We had to wait three days for the rain to stop. Then on Saturday Morning hubby woke up and told me to pack a bag for over night. I did not ask questions l was just happy to get out of the house.

It must have been around 3:00 pm when we pull into a little oil town call Snyder. Hubby had been telling me about this triangularly-shaped service station in Snyder, Texas

Directions:
On the north side of US Hwy 180/Coliseum Drive at its triangular intersection with 25th St. and Ave. G. About a mile east of Snyder’s downtown courthouse square.

It was a cloudy day day with a brake from the Fall rain. He said this would be a good place to take pictures and maybe a get a painting in too.

I took a lot of pictures of the gas station as you can see in this blog. Then hubby suggested I paint the gas station. I took one look at it with the time of one and half hour let before sunset and I op-ed to draw it in stead, I only wish I had brought my color pencils with me.

Will hubby pull into an empty lot with a slap on it and park. I pull out my supplies and started to draw but I kept getting this feeling that the cops where going to show up at any min. and ask us what are we doing on private property? But no cops show up just the owner. (This time)

To make a long story short, he ask what were we doing on his property? We told him that I am a artist and I wanted to draw the Sinclair Service Station. Will his face lit up when he heard that. And I was happy to hear him tell us “You can stay and draw as long as you like”.

We thank him and I kept drawing but what I really wanted to do was paint. I drew the bear bones and figure I could come back the next day and put color into my drawing with my paints.

fb_img_15354186121081101930135.jpg

But hubby is not an artist and the next morning we where off to Dublin,Texas to sight see.

I really can’t complain it is his vacation time.

Paint Historic Waxahachie Event 2018

FullSizeRender (16)

My Adventure Plein Air

Beauty is where you find it. And sometimes it’s found by climbing over a few fences to get to an unusual subject. That’s part of what makes outdoor painting (plein air) so interesting to me. There are always new and interesting things to be discovered and painted just over the hill.

————————————————–

It seem I have been playing catch lately. I just found out this year that I am a type 1 diabetic and their meds are driving me crazy. Literally.

It seems that my med that I was on was making me a depressed woman. And let me tell you that depression really dose hurts.

Well Per-Paint Historic Waxahachie was to start in April. And let me tell you that Texas weather is bipolar.

This year we only got to paint on three weekends of April and wouldn’t you know it, it rain during those weekend.

fb_img_15323984708431356541324.jpg

The first weekend it rain and I did not want to get out in it.

On the second weekend I was determine to get something done and wouldn’t you not know it, it RAIN again!!!

fb_img_15258166024921319480280.jpg

But there was this historic cotton solo and next to it a barn type coffee shop.

Well like I said it was rain so I decided not to paint but draw in my car. I just had to draw the historic cotton solo.

So I drove down to the site while the rain was light and as I park my car half on the road and half in the gully I began to draw. As I was getting into my drawing the rain started to get heavier and heavier and before I knew it the rain water was rushing under my car in the gully.

I started to feel the car move. Right then and there I pack up my supplies and pray to God to have the rain lighten up so I could get out of the passenger side of the car and walk around to the driver’s side so I could pull myself out of the circumstances that had gotten myself into once again.

Well rain did lighten up for a few mins but not as much as I would have like it too. But I hop out of my car and some how got around to the drive side and after spinning my wheels I manage to pull my self out out of that gully and slowly head home.

OH by the way, somewhere in my search for a good spot, my car pick up a nail or maybe it was in the gully. But I did make it home safe once again.

At the end of April someone from Hubby work told us about a patch of Bluebonnets along the Bardwell Lake in Ennis (Texas).

So hubby and I hop in his truck to search for the place. Once we found the place I could not believe how big they were. I knew I had to paint them.

But I wanted to try something different with my paints but what?

I got it! I will take 130 lb cold press paper and glue it a form cord and use it as a canvas. Yes that’s what I will do.

img_20180516_181911_014969994115.jpg

I thin my acrylic out with water and painted just like I was painting on a canvas but I got an watercolor effect.

About 5 days later I join some ladies from the gallery to go paint some historic home.

We found a cute 1920 one bedroom house but I am a landscaper painter and even tho the house is cute I fell in love with the lady’s small but cute garden area.

I grab my palette knife and started to paint the fence and before I knew it this is what I painted.

I call this Savannah’s bicycle after the owner of the house.
