Cancel Paint Out for me

Welcome to My Crazy Plein Air Adventures blog.
FullSizeRender (16)

Beauty is where you find it. And sometimes it’s found by climbing over a few fences to get to an unusual subject. That’s part of what makes outdoor painting (Plein Air) so interesting to me. There are always new and interesting things to be discovered and painted.

———————————————–
I am planning on going out on a paint out this February 26, 27 and I have pack up my plein air gear and well start packng my clothes but I have to admit I am getting a little nervous to go out the the paint out.
You see the last time I got to paint was in September 2019 with the Outdoor Painters Society to the Balloon Festival in Plano, Texas.
At that time I did not know I was getting sick and would soon not be able to walk.
Now that I have recovered and I am able to walk on my own with no pain but still use a walker 50/50 of the time, I have once again sign up to join the Outdoor Painters Society to go on a paint out at Graham, Texas.
I am so hoping my inner critic dose not raise up it ugly head and start screaming at me about painting with Acrylic when everyone is painting in oils.
I hear from other artis all the time that I should paint with oil and not acrylic, because acrylic dry to fast and you can’t blend l Iike you do with oil. Oil are so rich in color where acrylic look flat.
When this happens I can’t enjoy my time painting. And beside I am Allergic to oils, that’s why I paint in acrylic an I love it.
Update:
I will not be going out to Graham, Texas to paint with the plein air group this week.
Hubby got a call from his dad that his mom is in the hospital. She is bleeding internally and they don’t know why.
So the next morning I told him to pack a bag and go see about his parents.
I am heart broken that I will not be able to get out of this house to paint (I have not drove a car for over a year now since my illness) but my husband needs to be with his parents and there is always next month when the group will be going out to Corsicana,Texas for their next paint out.

Update of Corsicana

————————————————–

Forgot to post this one. Sorry

If you remember reading my blog about my trip to Corsicana?

Then you will remember this house that I wrote about.

It was so cold and windy that day and because I paint with acrylic windy and acrylic are mortal enemies.

So if you paint with acrylics and find your self out in the cold (no pun intended) then brake out your pencils, pen or even your color pencils and start drawing. But remember you are not drawing a master piece, yes you are documenting a moment in time but just have fun.

When I go out I always carry a plein air bag of pencils, pen, color pencils, sketchbooks and papers.

I have found that when the weather gets bad or when I get what I call “out of sorts” I will pull out my bag and document the moment as I have done here.

I started off with a pencil drawing and then add color to the roof and front of the house with my color pencils.

Next I took a fiber Castle fine and extra fine black pen to start sketching.

Later I went back to the site and finish my drawing

Here is the final drawing of my plein air of The New Frontier Cottage on Oak valley Road

San Antonio paint out

Beauty is where you find it. And sometimes it’s found by climbing over a few fences to get to an unusual subject. That’s part of what makes outdoor painting (plein air) so interesting to me. There are always new and interesting things to be discovered and painted.

————————————————–

It is now October in my plein air adventure and OPS is planing to go to San Antonio to paint the missions and the river walk.

Hubby has taken his vacation and we are going to take the “Beast” out, (our 42 ft 5th Wheel) on a trip to San Antonio with OPS.

fb_img_1542473633462267138002.jpg

Note: 10/08/…

WOW! A bad Texas rain storm has hit the house. As you can see I already have little lake’s in my back yard.

I wonder how long this storm will last?

Note: 10/09…

It is still raining and from what the news man said this morning we are in our second severe storm and we still have a third one coming in. The next storm will bring cooler weather and kick off fall for us by tonight.

All I can think of …”Just don’t rain while I am in San Antonio on the Outdoors Painter Society paint out event next week”. I am so looking forward to this event, get outdoors to paint, meeting up with old friends and making new one.

Note:10/10…

I can’t wait for next Wednesday. I am going to San Antonio, Texas for a week. YAY!!!

For three days I will be with the Outdoor Painters Society painting with old and new artist friends and then after the event is done Bruce and I will become tourist and just enjoy the town together.
So I am busy clean house, working the gallery, church duties, and getting my art supplies ready plus the RV too.

Note: 10…

I was just outside putting the last of my art gear and some clothes in the Beast (5th wheel) for our trip this Wednesday and boy it is cool!!! out there. The temp is 43* put the wind chill feels like the low 30*
Makes me question why I love to Plein Air. Ha Ha

I sure do hope its not raining in San Antonio. Hubby dose not allow me to paint in his truck.

We will see what happens…

Note:10/16…

Snoopy said not to complain about the rain but I’am sorry, I am screaming my complaint. Ugh!

Due to the rain and flooding all over Texas my sweet hubby Bruce and I do not feel it is safe for us to pull the Beast in all this bad weather to San Antonio for the paint out event.

“ITS NOT FAR!!! DARN RAIN!”

So we will have to spend our vacation somewhere else after the rain.

Well I really shouldn’t complain, at lease I will be with the love of my life, my hubby and we will be together.♡

Plein Air in Tyler, Texas

My Adventure Plein Air

Beauty is where you find it. And sometimes it’s found by climbing over a few fences to get to an unusual subject. That’s part of what makes outdoor painting (plein air) so interesting to me. There are always new and interesting things to be discovered and painted.

————————————————–

Before I start I want to apologize.

I thought I had post all my Plein Air Adventures for this year but I found out that some of them got wiped out while others are still in the draft section. So what I plan on doing is this, some of my Adventures are lost while others are still in the draft mode. I plan on trying to post once a week what I have too update you on what is going on.

Again my apologies if you thought that I fell off the face of the Earth but I haven’t it’s just been one rough year.

FB_IMG_1521240185848.jpg

Well hubby and I went to Tyler, TX but before I tell you my adventure I must say that the day and a half before we left I started to get sick. Hubby told me that if we cancel the Hotel than we would lose all the points that he paid for on the room.

I told him we are going and we did.

We got to Tyler on a Wednesday and the Paint Out was the next days. I could not wait to get out there to paint.

fb_img_1475372244582.jpg

That night I had chills and was just under the weather. But the next day I did not want to get out of bed for I I felt so bad but I suck it up and we went out to the first destination which was a ranch.

After I check in I was over whelmed and all I wanted to do was to go home for I felt that bad. But I figure if got out and painted something than maybe I could get into the swing of thing.

So hubby drove me from the main house to the front house up the road and I saw these three big trees in the pasture with two horses, a beautiful view of the dirt road with trees lining each side of the pastures and right across from where I was sitting was a partial wood fence with some kind of Vine growing around it with these pretty red flowers.

As I started to paint the wind kick in and acrylic and wind are not a good combo. (.*0*.)

As I was painting it seems like it had been so long since the last time I had painted outdoors, it felt like years, but in reality it was just last month.

Has anyone experience this?

Once I had finish my painting (sorry my phone died and I lost all my pictures. So I can’t show you my painting) I move on to other painting but this time I use my palette knife. The wind was so strong by now that my easel kept blowing over. So I have to a meant that I rush through my 2nd painting because of the wind and not feeling well.

Note to self: If you are coming down with something or are sick do not go out to paint because your heart and mind will not be in it.

When we got up the next day it was cold, it had rain and was still windy. So I opted to take photos of landscape, building, etc beside doing some drawings which work out better for me.

017

When the day was over we headed back to the hotel and the next day I slept all the way home.

To cold in Corsicana

FullSizeRender (16)

My Adventure Plein Air

Beauty is where you find it. And sometimes it’s found by climbing over a few fences to get to an unusual subject. That’s part of what makes outdoor painting (plein air) so interesting to me. There are always new and interesting things to be discovered and painted.

————————————————–

Will this month in November 2018 the Outdoor Painters Society went to Corsicana Texas for a two day paint out.

This town rolled out the red carpet and welcomed 25+ plein air painters who braved the bone-chilling breezes and shivering temperatures in the 30’s/ 40’s!

All the painters who show up got a breakfast & lunch boxes to go, a tee-shirt and a goody bag.  Friday evening we all got-together for a nice “wined & dined” hosted by artist’s residency “100 West”….and on Saturday evening was a wet paint show & sale reception. But a few of us did not make it to the reception for one reason or other. I was one of those artist that did not go. But I am getting a head of my self.

If you had read my last blog than you know my frustration with the weather and Plein Air.

It is Friday and it had rain the day before so it was so cold and windy.

I drove about an hour or a tad longer to I get to my destination, check in, drive around town to see what I want to paint (now remember I am a landscape artist) and I opt to paint the Palace Theater.

It is so cold I opt to paint in my car but I found that my paint kept tacking up on me. So I turn on the heater and kept painting. The weather was so bad that the wind would rock my car hard.

But I kept painting, once I was done I had one bad painting as you can see here.

I got so frustrated that I dove around looking for some barns, fields, etc. But everyone I wanted to paint I found no safe place to paint, not even from my car. So I drove out to a one lane road to one of the houses on the OPS list.

It was the cutest little country home but it was out in no mans lands and I was by my self. I sat in my car debating if I wanted to paint it or draw but an eerie feeling came over me like I shouldn’t be there so I backed my car up and I went back into town.

By now I am frustrated. I was so looking forward to this trip but things are not working out for me.

Have you ever been on a paint out event or just went out on your own and found that know matter what you do things just aren’t work out for ya?

Will that’s how I felt that day.

When hubby got off work he drove up to Corsicana  to meet me and the other painters for dinner. But while he was on his way I drove back to town and found aside street to waited for him.

As I sat in my can on a side street I saw this back door and decided to draw it with Graphite Pencil, Fiber Castle Pens – SX, F, M and store-bought pens.

Once hubby found me and we went to a hotel to clean up and out to dinner we went.

That night I could not sleep. I toss and turn. When morning came I found my skin red but did not think much about it at the moment.

Hubby drove me around as we scouted out place to paint or even draw. But by then I was starting to brake out in hives.

I did have hubby take me back to the cute little country home. With hubby by my side I felt safe.

It was still to cold for me to sit out side to paint so I opted to draw.

As we sat in his truck I started to draw the house in pencil and which to color pencil for the roof. Then I took out my Fiber Castle SX and re-drew some of my house. But I had to stop because I was not feeling well and the hives was getting worse. So I opted out of the reception and sales and went home.

For over a week I had to take meds and put the medicine that looks and feels like Vaseline. So for days and nights I felt like a grease pig.

Now here a side note: Hubby and I stayed in every nice clean hotel. But I have been told that some hotels will use strong detergents to wash their bed sheet and covers.

That might be the case here but I often wonder if they change the bed sheets after each customers vacates the room. We only slept in the room one night. Did she change the sheets after we left? Something to think about.

Well  Plein Air has kick off and I have been house bound to long and I want to get out and paint.

Thank God OPS (Outdoor Painters Society) event this month in Tyler, Texas.

Last Feb and March I was not able to go out with OPS due to hubby knee replacement. Nor was I able to even go into my studio to paint but now that he is able walk around with out a walker and can drive we are heading to Tyler. YAY!!!!

Now I am not to good when it comes to outdoor painting but there is something about being outdoors and painting that I love.

Now I know I will come home with a few bad painting (lets face it not every painting is going to be a masterpiece) but as I paint I am hoping to come home with a jewel or two of a painting. I love to paint for it’s good therapy for me and I am not out to make a masterpiece every time I pick up a paintbrush but I’m going out to just to have fun.

So with that said (.*u*.) …

——————————————–

Sorry for not posting this earlier I was busy getting ready for the November paint out. But better late than never in posting this one.

Last month Hubby and I went to Eureka Springs Arkansas with OPS (Outdoor Painters Society).

hubby had ask me to scale down my painting gear. Last moth it took up the hold back seat and there was no place to put the ice chest or anything else.

So I agree and what a disaster that was. I could not paint with what I brought. I wanted to cry… But I remember that I had brought my drawing bag and that is what I use on the paint out.

Here is what I drew.

  On Sunday October 15, 2017

Hubby and I went to Turpentine Creek Wild Life Refuse in Eureka Springs Arkansas. I only had 5 mins to draw these to Lynx Rufus -Bobcats before boarding onto the tour bus.

This is a Pencil drawing.

Wednesday 10/18/2017

hubby and I went out to Thorncrown Chapel in Eureka Springs, AR.

This is the view looking through a large glass window.

This is a pen drawing

Wednesday 10/18/2017

After a long day of sightseeing hubby and I stopped off at a little place to eat called “RT 62 Diner in Eureka Springs Arkansas the Land of the Ozarks.

This was a nick- nick  sitting on a shelf. I started drawing with my pen while talking to hubby as we waited on our food.

This is how far I got when the food arrive.

Thursday 10/19/2017

Hubby wanted to go to the Promised Land Zoo which is a drive thru zoo in Eagle Rock, Missouri.

As we were leaving I saw these trees and I told hubby I wanted to draw them and I did with my pens…

Thursday 10/19/2017

After we left the zoo we drove up to Roaring River State Park. as we are driving I see this long old barn that is leaning I wanted to take a picture of it but  Hubby thought I wanted to draw it. So he park and tells me to take my time drawing. Well I did not have the heart to tell him all i wanted to do was take a photo of it. So I keep quite for once and draw the old barn. all the time I am thinning we are going to get in trouble for being here but later I found out that the barn belongs to the park so we were OK being there.

Friday 10/20/2017

On this day hubby and I drove out to Beaver Town, Arkansas

I drew the old train trellis (what was left of it) that used to cross over White River.

This is a pencil drawing

Friday 10/19/2017

We are still in Beaver Town, Akansas.

This pen drawing is a portion of the Golden Gate Bridge of the Ozarks, which is a copied from the Golden Gate Bridge of San Francisco, California.

The only difference between the two Bridges is the Golden Gate in Arkansas is a one-lane bridge with the wooden Road. It is so cool but a little scary to drive over it.

In downtown Eureka Springs you will find gnomes everywhere. Some are as tall as a human being.

This is a drawing of one of them.

Once I got home I add color to him. This is a pen drawing with color pencil.

Next month I will be in my home town Waxahachie with OPS on other paint out.
