My Adventure Plein Air

Beauty is where you find it. And sometimes it’s found by climbing over a few fences to get to an unusual subject. That’s part of what makes outdoor painting (plein air) so interesting to me. There are always new and interesting things to be discovered and painted just over the hill.

As I get ready for this year new adventure in outdoor painting. I have discovered that my acrylic paints that I had store in the freezer had dried out in my containers.

So what s a girl I do?

Throw out the containers and buy new ones?

That would be the lazy way I go for me to go. So I will clean them out and reuse them again.

Once I remove the old paint from the containers I will place them in a big pot with hot water and let them soak.

This is what the water looks like.

I live in the country and I have a septic tank. So I can not put any acrylic water down my sink. So how will I get rid of the acrylic water? You can read how you can discard your discard your acrylic water.

After I clean my containers …

I place a small amt. of clear gesso to keep my paint wet a little longer when I am using them.

Then I lay out my paints the way I would in my paint box. Now I place each color in the box container and mix well.

Now I got a nice containers full of clean bright colors to paint with.

Now that fall is here and winter is just around the corner it will be to cold for some of us to be outdoor, so why not spend this time to rethink out your Plein Air set and where to you want to adventure too.

As I sit here listening to the Fall wind howl and the rain on it ways I found this great blog by Dan Schultz.

I know I will be hitting the open air again to paint outdoors this fall and winter. (it is to hot in the Texas heat for me to paint) So I will be blogging again soon.
